If the OverDrive app is not working properly (titles are not loading properly, the app crashes, etc.), here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch)

Please try these steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue to the next step.

  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of the OverDrive app (available on these devices) by going to the App Store and checking for updates. After updating, check to see if your issue is resolved. If not, or if you were already using the latest version of the app, continue to step 2.
  2. Close the OverDrive app and any other unneeded apps.
    • Double-tap the Home button to open your "recents" list.
    • Find the OverDrive app and swipe up to close it. Do the same for other unneeded apps.
    • Tap the Home button.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 3.
  3. Restart your device.
    • Hold down the Wake/Sleep button until the "slide to power off" slider appears.
    • Turn off your device.
    • Hold down the Wake/Sleep button to restart your device.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 4.
  4. Delete your app cookies.
    • Open the OverDrive app.
    • Tap the icon in the top-left corner of the app to open the Home menu.
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap Delete app cookies.
    • Close the OverDrive app and re-open it to see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 5.
  5. Uninstall the OverDrive app (before uninstalling, you may want to save your history of downloaded titles).
    • Tap and hold the OverDrive icon until it begins to shake.
    • Tap the "X" on the icon.
    • Tap Delete.
    • Tap the Home button to return to your home screen.

  3. Restart your device.
    • Hold down the Power button until options appear.
    • Tap Power Off, then OK (if prompted) to turn off your device.
    • Hold down the Power button to restart your device.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 4.
  4. Delete your app cookies.
    • Open the OverDrive app.
    • Tap the icon in the top-left corner of the app to open the Home menu.
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap Delete app cookies.
    • Close the app and reopen it to see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 5.
  5. Uninstall the OverDrive app (before uninstalling, you may want to save your history of downloaded titles). 
    • Tap and hold the OverDrive app.
    • Drag it to the Uninstall button (or Remove button on some Samsung devices).
  6. Restart your device again.
  7. Reinstall OverDrive for Android. Then, sign into the app and see if your issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting OverDrive for Windows 8/10

Please try these next steps in order. Once your issue is resolved, there's no need to continue to the next step.

  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of the OverDrive app (available on these devices) by going to the Windows Store and checking for updates. After installing updates, check to see if your issue is resolved. If not, or if you were already using the latest version of the app, continue to step 2.
  2. Make sure the OverDrive app is closed.
    • Fully close the OverDrive app by swiping down from the top bezel and dragging the app down to the bottom of the screen.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 3.
  3. Restart your device.
    • Right-click on the Start menu and select Shut down or sign out, then Restart. (On a touchscreen device, press and hold the Power button and swipe down on the screen).
    • Wait at least 10 seconds after your device shuts down, then turn it back on.
    • Open the OverDrive app and see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 4.
  4. Uninstall the OverDrive app.
  5. Restart your device again.
  6. Reinstall the OverDrive app from the Windows Store. Then, sign into the app and see if your issue is resolved.
